The news and media guide our day to day thoughts and opinions.

Through these means we are offered well researched and interesting articles, but how can we be sure that the there is no bias in what we read?

The industry in general is heavily regulated, in the United States this falls to the US Federal Communications Commission, commonly known as the FCC.

They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of communication, be it via newspapers or television. Along with strict laws governing how information is presented, regulation offers a safeguard to consumers, so the information we receive is based on factual truth, unless specifically stated otherwise. An example of this regulation in action is TV commercials which offer to improve an aspect of your life. These commercials have to clearly state if the results shown are those of an extreme case, so as not to deceive viewers into believing the results shown are common.
